Word Study
There will be no word study this week due to short week!
Every week your student will recieve a new spelling sort based on which word study category they are in. They will be completing the same classwork and homework every week. They will have a spelling test every Friday.
What is Word Study?
Word study is a systematic instruction in phonics spelling and vocabulary at a learner’s instructional level. Word study teaches learners to examine words and study patterns of the English language.

There are five different stages of word study.
Emergent- If your student is in the emergent stage they may scribble letters and #’s, lack concepts of words, lack letter-sound correspondence, or pretend to read and write.
Letter-Name- If your student is in the letter name stage they represent beginning and ending sounds, have functional concept of words, and read word by word in beginning reading materials .
Within Word-If your student is in the within word stages they spell most single-syllable short vowel words correctly, spell most beginning consonant digraphs and 2-letter consonant blends, attempts to use silent-E markers, read silently and more fluently, write more fluently, and can edit and revise.
Syllable Juncture- If your student is in the syllable juncture stage they may spell most single syllable words correctly, makes errors at syllable juncture and in unaccented syllables , read with good fluency and expression, read faster silently than orally, and write responses that are sophisticated and critical.
Derivational Constancy- If your student is in the derivational constancy stage they have mastered high-frequency words, make errors on low-frequency words derived from Greek and Latin combining forms, read with good fluency and expression, read faster silently than orally, and write responses that are sophisticated and critical

Tuesday- SAW (Sort, Alphabetize, and Write) Spelling words
Wednesday- Write 5 great Sentences!
Thursday- Write words in print and in cursive
Friday- Glue words in Word Study Journal, Test Day.
